Quality & Materials
Is the jewellery made with real gold?
Yes. Everything is plated in real 18k gold over a base metal, usually sterling silver or stainless steel, and never lead or nickel. Some pieces are also PVD plated, which is the tougher finish. We test every piece ourselves before it makes the edit.
Why do some pieces look slightly different in colour?
There are two gold finishes in the edit, and both are 18k gold plated. The warm amber gold pieces are PVD plated, which is the tougher finish, so they're worth choosing if your jewellery rarely comes off. The soft gold pieces are a slightly paler, gentler tone.
The difference is subtle and mixing them is completely fine. If you want an exact match, stay within one.
Do you do silver?
Not right now. We've kept the edit to gold so it stays small and easy to choose from.
If you've always been 'a silver person', gold and silver worn together is completely fine, so a gold piece or two won't clash with anything you already own.
Can I wear it in the shower or the pool?
Our jewellery is made so you don't have to treat it like a newborn. It's water-resistant, so a shower won't hurt it. It will stay looking better for longer if you keep it away from chlorine, water, lotions and perfume where you can.
The exception is anything with a stone: the Polly hoops, the Opalite necklace and any earrings with a stone charm. Chlorine and water can get behind a set stone, so take those off before swimming, hot tubs or the bath.
Will it tarnish?
All plated jewellery can dull over time, but everything in the edit is tarnish-resistant, and the warm amber gold pieces are PVD plated, which is the tougher finish.
To keep it looking good for longer, store it in the pouch it came in, keep it away from chlorine, perfume and cleaning products, and give it a buff with a soft cloth if it needs a refresh.
How do I look after my jewellery?
Pop it in the pouch provided when you're not wearing it, to keep it away from dust and scratches. Put it on after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and give it a gentle polish with a soft cloth every so often.
Pieces with stones (Polly, Opalite and anything with a stone charm) should come off before swimming, hot tubs or the bath.
Can I wear these if I have sensitive ears?
Yes. Everything is hypoallergenic and nickel- and lead-free, which are the usual causes of itchy ears. If hoops tend to bother you, our studs have a simple post and butterfly back.
Shipping & Delivery
Can I send as a gift?
Absolutely. Every piece comes beautifully packaged, ready to send directly to the recipient. We don’t enclose anything containing the price, and you can add a personalised gift note at checkout.
Do you do gift vouchers?
Yes, we offer digital and physical vouchers, available in £10, £25, £50 and £100. Perfect when you’re not sure of their size or style (or if you’ve left it a bit last-minute).
How quickly do you ship orders?
We usually dispatch within 2 working days, by Royal Mail Tracked 48.
In a hurry? Choose Express at checkout (£7.95, Royal Mail Special Delivery) and we'll get it out as soon as we can, usually the same day.
How much is postage?
Standard UK delivery is free on every order, with no minimum spend, by Royal Mail Tracked 48.
Express is £7.95 and goes by Royal Mail Special Delivery. We only ship within the UK at the moment.
Can I return something?
Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to return anything, earrings included, as long as it's unworn and in its original packaging. Email hello@thejewelleryedit.com and we'll set it up. If something is faulty or isn't what you ordered, we cover the return postage.
One honest ask: we can't resell anything that comes back, so every return costs a small business like ours. If you're unsure about size or fit, email us before you order and we'll happily help you choose.
